Project Description

Guana Island, BVI

In July 2016, Guana Island was in need of a larger desalination system to serve the growing water demand. Inspection and evaluation of the entire water system was prepared by Gemini Seawater Systems that identified six short term improvements needed to address water production and four others related to the distribution system needed to reduce water losses while automating the system to reduce water outages. Through the implementation of two pressure zones and intermediate water storage, piping failure due to excessive pressure was greatly reduced. A 20,000 US gallon per day desalination system was designed with isobaric energy recovery to double water production while reducing energy consumption by 50 percent to meet the water demand. The desalination system controls provided for online monitoring of water production, storage, and distribution.
